Summary: "The candidates for Governor and Comptroller, Messrs. Bradford and Maffit, will address the people of Washington County at Hagerstown on Tuesday next." Important election, "If the Union candidates are successful the wise and patriotic policy of Gov. Hicks, which alone prevented the State from plunging into the fearful whirlpool of civil war, will be steadily maintained..." Loss will bring "secession, rebellion and all of war's fiercest desolation."

Summary: "A stable belonging to J.S. Bachtell, of Chewsville, was set on fire and burnt to the ground…" Assumed to be arson, "as Mr. Bachtell is a very prominent Union man…'Bridge-burning' very naturally leads to 'barn-burning!'"

Summary: Union Central Committee call drew "a large meeting assembled at Junior Hall" [Clear Spring?]. Joseph Rentch, Chair; George S. Miller, Secretary. On motion of D.G. Mumma, delegates to the County Convention were nominated and 10 highest names elected - 10 names listed. Isaac Nesbitt moved to call a District meeting October 5 "to nominate a local ticket." Wm. H. Pretzman moved to adjourn.

Summary: Union meeting "assembled at the School House in Smithsburg for the purpose of appointing delegates to the County Convention, to be held in Hagerstown on Saturday next, 21st inst." Dr. E. Bishop, Chair; Jacob Hopfine [?], Sec. Jacob Barkdoll moved for Chair to appoint committee of 5 (named in text) to "draft resolutions expressive of the sense of the meeting." Committee of 3 (named in text) appointed "to select ten delegates to represent said District [7]." Ten delegates named in text. Seven unconditional Union resolutions published in article text. At end of article - "[The District Convention for the nomination of Magistrates, Constables and Supervisor, will be held in Smithsburg, on Saturday, October 5th at 2 o'clock P.M.]"

Summary: "Union citizens of Funkstown met to nominate ten delegates…to represent said district [10] in the County Convention to be held in Hagerstown on Saturday next, Sept. 21st." Henry Tritch, Chairman, George Carson, Secretary. 20 men nominated, named in article. Two pro-Union resolutions adopted, one based on the words of Joseph Holt of KY, other in the words of Andrew Jackson - "The Federal Union must and shall be preserved."

Summary: "In obedience to a call of the Union Central Committee of Washington County, the friends of the "Union, the Constitution and the Enforcement of the Laws," of District No. 12, met at Fairplay School House..." Upton Morin, Esq., Chair, John Reichard, Secretary. Committee of five appointed to present a "list of delegate to represent Dist. No. 12 in the Union County Convention, to be held in Hagerstown on the 21st inst." 29 names listed in article, "unanimously agreed to..." Next meeting "on the evening of the 28th of September" for nomination of District officers, 2 for Justice of the Peace, 2 for Constables, and 1 for Road Supervisor.

Summary: "In pursuance of notice given by the Union Central Committee of Washington County, the Union men of District No. 15 met at the hotel of Mr. Thomas Corbett, (Indian Springs,) on Saturday 14th inst." Motion of T. J. Mason, Lancelot Jacques appointed President, Denton G. Gehr, Secretary. "appointed J.C. Dowler, J.T. Mason and Denton Jacques a committee to report the names of ten delegates to represent Dist. No. 15 in the County Convention, to be held in Hagerstown, August 21. 10 delegates named in article. Voted on nominations for Magistrates [3 named], Constables [2 named], Road Supervisor [1 named]. John T. Mason offered 3 resolutions in support of the Union and the Constitution. Joseph J. Bishop offered 3 additional resolutions - one referencing the "suspension of the writ of [habeas corpus]" [scan incomplete]
