Summary

Union meeting "assembled at the School House in Smithsburg for the purpose of appointing delegates to the County Convention, to be held in Hagerstown on Saturday next, 21st inst." Dr. E. Bishop, Chair; Jacob Hopfine [?], Sec. Jacob Barkdoll moved for Chair to appoint committee of 5 (named in text) to "draft resolutions expressive of the sense of the meeting." Committee of 3 (named in text) appointed "to select ten delegates to represent said District [7]." Ten delegates named in text. Seven unconditional Union resolutions published in article text. At end of article - "[The District Convention for the nomination of Magistrates, Constables and Supervisor, will be held in Smithsburg, on Saturday, October 5th at 2 o'clock P.M.]"
