Summary: The Union State Executive Committee stated there will be county mass Union meetings in support of Bell and Everett in Frederick City on September 6 and Hagerstown on September 5. The Executive Committee said Union Clubs should be organized in each county and in each election district to support the Bell/Everett ticket during the campaign. The Baltimore Patriot is said to be favoring the election of Lincoln and Hamlin, "although professing to be an advocate of Bell and Everett."

Death of a Wealthy Citizen (July 20th, 1860)

Summary: Mr. Victor Thompson, a wealthy citizen of Hagerstown, died without issue leaving an estate estimated at about $60,000. Much of his money is left to various charities, to his sisters and he leaves $1,000 to his African American female servant. Upon her death, it will revert to other causes. Second Regiment of Cavalry (July 25th, 1860)

Summary: First Regimental Cavalry District of Maryland comprised of two cavalry regiments. First Regiment, under Col. William Richardson, consists of all troops west of the Monocacy. Second Regiment consists of troops from Frederick City and parts of Carroll Co. Second formerly commanded by A. Kimmel. Since his promotion, Maryland Governor has appointed J. K. Longwell as Colonel, John E. Smith as Lieut. Col. and, Denton Hammond of New Market as Major, etc. Both regiments have full complement of officers.
