County Bonds (July 5th, 1861)

Summary: A description of the ten classes of Frederick County bonds to be offered to raise money to build a new court house in Frederick to replace the old one destroyed by secessionists. Bonds will be in sums ranging between $100 and $1,000 paying the legal interest rate. They mature annually. The paper thinks the security of the investment will invite lots of bidders. Also announced is an increase in taxes of three cents per hundred dollars of assessable property for the purpose of rebuilding the courthouse, "but this has been diminished by one-half by the economy of the County Commissioners." Summary: The ladies of Frederick City will supply refreshments for the 1st Regt. PA Vols. stationed at the State Barracks in honor of the 4th of July. Provided will be three thousand pies and tarts, barrels of milk, hams, tongues, chickens, fresh meat, vegetables and fruits. Summary: Company C of the 1st Regt. PA Vols., stationed in Frederick City, proceeded to Adamstown where they seized contraband goods (30 barrels of sugar and 2 boxes of clothing, paper, etc.) that were destined for the VA rebels.
