Summary: The (Potomac) Home Brigade Regiments are rapidly filling up with citizens from Allegany, Frederick and Washington counties. The Home Brigade was created to protect the canal and loyal citizens from the Monocacy River to the western boundary of the state. In the 1st Rgt., the officers appointed by the President are Col. William P. Maulsby, Lt. Col. Charles G. Trail and Maj. Lewis P. Firey [sic; Fiery].

Death of a Soldier (August 28th, 1861)

Summary: Last Thursday 19-year-old Leverett Rodgers from the 4th CT Regt. died in Hagerstown from typhoid fever and was buried in the German Reformed Church cemetery. On Monday Sgt. Graham died from the wounds he acquired in the battle at Hainesville (VA).
