Death of a Soldier

Summary

Charles Oaker[?] died at his residence in Hagerstown of consumption in the 30th year of his age. He was a soldier during the war and contracted the disease there. He was buried in the Lutheran Burial Grounds.

DEATH OF A SOLDIER – Charles Oaker after a lingering illness of consumption died at his residence in this town, on Saturday morning last in the 30th year of his age. Mr. Oaker served his country faithfully during the last war and while in that service contracted the disease which caused his death. On Sunday noon his remains were interred in the Lutheran Burial Ground, followed to that last resting place by a huge funeral train, embracing besides relatives the First Hagerstown Hose Company and a number of his old comrades in arms. – The Rev. T. _. Titus preached the discourse on the occasion.
