Maryland Douglas Convention

Summary

The state convention of the friends of Johnson and Douglas in Maryland met in Baltimore. Col. Edward Shriver of Frederick was the chairman. The main business was to nominate Presidential electors in place of those earlier placed on the electoral ticket "but who have proved recreant to the Democratic Party (or what is left of it) in advocating the absurd pretensions of Breckinridge and Lane." The replacement electors at large on the Western Shore are Col. Wm. P. Maulsby of Frederick County and E. Louis Lowe. The other necessary electors were nominated to fill vacant positions. Some of the originally nominated electors were still loyal to Douglas and Johnson.
