Military Picnic

Summary

The military picnic of the United Guards was a delightful and successful affair. The Guard, under the command of Lt. G. Beckley, plus local ladies and gentlemen traveled by "Accommodation" train from Frederick to "Junction." The picnic was held on the banks of Monocacy River. Picnic included a marksmanship contest. Best shots to choose "Queen of Love and Beauty" and her attendants. Winner was Charles Mobley who chose Miss Fanny Reynolds as Queen. Other runners-up listed plus the young women they chose. Those attending numbered four to five hundred. There was an elaborate picnic, addresses and afterwards dancing to Prize's Cotillion Band, promenading, etc. They returned via train.
