Summary
About 400 horses wounded in battle were driven through Middletown on the way to Giesboro near Washington, D.C. They are part of the worn-out stock from Gen. Sheridan's campaign which are constantly arriving. Nearly 400 horses have died in the corral at Giesboro in the past month. Some are just buried, but enterprising businessmen from Washington are paying to gather up the animals and will use their hides, bones, and fat. [from Hagerstown Herald]
