The Union…
Summary
The Examiner reprints an article from the Denton (Maryland) Union in regard to the workings of the Civil Rights law. In a nearby county, a "Negro girl swore her child to a white man, a noted Rebel and Southern sympathizer. Who would have believed after so much noise about negro suffrage, negro equality, etc. that these men would turn out to be practical amalgamationists. This exposition of the inside scenes of Southern society, is perhaps, one of the grounds of the strong opposition to the Civil Rights law."
