Negro Suffrage
Summary
Editorial discussing the issue of "negro suffrage." The Examiner says that Union men are all against Negro suffrage. They would rather see a Negro who shouldered arms against the Rebels vote than see a white former Rebel vote, but it does not follow that they would support Negro suffrage. The Copperheads have the same attitude about Negro suffrage. However, the Examiner feels that if either party were to change its attitude, it would be the Copperheads because they would like to wrest control of Maryland from the Union men and having the Negro vote might help them accomplish that goal.
