The Draft
Summary
Orders have been issued by the Provost Marshals of this state to commence the draft in all congressional districts except the Fourth. More time will be given for recruitment of volunteers in the Fourth District before resorting to the draft. Except for Frederick City, most election districts have already raised their complement of men. The districts are giving a $150 bounty. It appears the war is nearing its end and before the current recruits have reached the battlefields, it will be over. Maryland has never shrunk from its patriotic duty.
