Provost Guard
Summary
To keep proper order in Frederick City, it was deemed necessary for Maj. Gen. Banks to appoint a provost marshal and guards. The marshal is Col. Thomas H. Rager (sp?) of the Third Wisconsin Regiment and the guards are also from that regiment. Moving an army into a populated area like Frederick offers temptations to the men, but the paper says that "the most perfect order prevails" although the streets are crowded. There is comparatively little drunkenness. The guard house is located on Church Street.
