Melancholy Casualty
Summary
Report on the accidental shooting of a soldier at "Camp Thomas" on the Barracks field in Frederick city. First Lt. J. M. Annan of Capt. Horner's Cavalry Co., First Regt. Maryland Home Brigade and Private Mehring were conversing when a Sharp's carbine in the hands of Mehring went off and shot Annan who died some hours later. His remains were taken to the home of his father, Dr. Andrew Annan of Emmitsburg, with an escort of his comrades.
