Arrival of a Splendid Regiment

Summary

39th IL Regt. with 900 men passed through Hagerstown Friday night under command of Col. Light going to Williamsport to join Gen. Lamon's Brigade. 43rd IL Regt. also going there. Some of the 39th Regt. came from Ogle and Lee counties IL and "are sons of former citizens of this county [Washington Co.]..." Regt. includes a band and drum and fife corps. Traveled here from St. Louis where they were in Gen. Siegel's division of the army in MO.
