The Recent Outrage in This Town

Summary

Soldiers from the 1st MD Regt. from Baltimore "assaulted the Hotel of J. A. Wright, the barber-shop of John Wagoner and the Grocery Store of J. H. Cretin…" all located on N. Potomac Street in Hagerstown; damaged property and goods. Article claims the soldiers were inebriated and attacked the businesses after being "assaulted with stones by peace men." Also notes that "an invalid soldier named Bushnell, of one of the Massachusetts Regts" was also hit with a stone by "rowdies." "When the Traitors of the South undertook to subvert the great central Government of our nation, they set an example of mobocracy..."
