The Hospital in this Town
Summary
As a result of the increased number of sick and wounded soldiers, the Hagerstown Academy has been converted into a hospital, in addition to the hospital at the County Hall. A July 4, 1861 letter from Dr. William A. Hammond, who is in command of the hospital, thanks residents of Hagerstown who have provided aid and comfort to the soldiers in the hospital.
