Army Casualties
Summary
Three soldiers serving in Washington County were accidentally shot, one of whom bled to death and another of whom had to have his leg amputated. Hamilton Downs, a citizen of Williamsport, was shot in the chest by a Union guard in a misunderstanding about the countersign.
