A Special Election
Summary
The county Union Convention nominated Lewis P. Firey [sic; Fiery] of Clear Spring as the Friends of the Union candidate to fill a vacancy in the county delegation in the House of Delegates. The (Hagerstown) Mail charges him with being the war candidate, but the war candidates are those who call for secession and revolution. The election will be held on May 4 (1861).
