Summary
John W. Breathed, who chaired a Feb. 9 (1861) Union meeting at Williamsport, writes to refute the charges of a correspondent who claimed that the assembly was a “democratic seceeders” meeting. The district meeting was called to select delegates to send to a convention in Baltimore. A large number of those opposed to the object of the meeting entered and attempted to take over the meeting, at which point the chair resigned.
