Riot at Emmitsburg
Summary
According to the Liberty Banner, a confrontation occurred at Emmitsburg when a former Confederate officer offered to shake the hand of a Union citizen, which was refused. The citizen was insulted, at which point another citizen shot the former Confederate. Although the report may be exaggerated, it is said that two “rebels” were killed and seven wounded.
