Antietam National Cemetery

Summary

According to the Hagerstown Herald and Torch, a burial corps has been sent to Antietam Battlefield to disinter bodies from the trenches and graves in the region, place them in coffins, and take them to Dr. Biggs, the superintendent of the cemetery. Biggs numbers the coffins, records the name of the soldier if known, and places each coffin in trenches excavated for each state. Work remains to be completed to the cemetery itself, including the erection of an iron fence. Secretary and treasurer of the Antietam Cemetery Association is Thos. A. Boult.
