Copperhead Nominations
Summary
The “Copperhead Johnson party” of the county nominated the following candidates for the MD House of Delegates: Daniel S. Biser of Petersville; Henry R. Harris of Woodsboro; Capt. Martin Rouzer of Mechanicstown; Capt. Charles Baugher of Frederick; J.N. Chiswell of Buckeystown; and Peter Hauver or Hauvers. The party professes devotion to the government, but a large majority of them were “rebels and rebel sympathizers” during the war.
