Disorderly Conduct
Summary
During the recent illumination to celebrate military victories, several citizens had their houses stoned and windows broken, including Col. A.B. Hanson, Col. J.M. Kunkle and Valerius Ebert. The homes of the above individuals were illuminated, and although they may at one time have been sympathetic to the rebellion, the vandalism was disgraceful.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT – We regret exceedingly the duty devolving upon us of denouncing the lawless conduct that was exhibited on the evening of the illumination. We refer to the scenes of disgrace enacted by the misguided parties, who, in defiance of order and self respect, threw stones into the windows of some of our citizens, causing a demolition of window glasses, lamps, &c. Among the number having their houses stoned and windows broken, are Col. A. B. Hanson, Col. J. M. Kunkle and Mr. Valerius Ebert, all of whom, we understand had their residences lighted up in honor of the recent victories. Whether illuminated or not, there could be no excuse for the unmanly exhibition of roudyism to which the above persons were subjected. If gentlemen refuse to share the rejoicings awakened by the overthrow of the great conspiracy as heartily as others, or refuse to light up at all, that constitutes no reason for the wreaking of summary vengeance upon them, and we trust the community will never be forced to witness a repetition of such gross and criminal demeanor in the future. Those who betrayed their [?] or cherished sympathy for treason have exposed themselves by their erring conduct to the stings of violated consciences and sooner or later, the part they have taken to destroy the Government, will recoil upon their own head; therefore, the outrages perpetrated upon them on the occasion referred to wore [sic] uncalled for, and can be viewed in no other light than unwarranted acts of scoundrelism.
