The Draft
Summary
By order of Provost Marshal Browne, the draft will begin on July 4. Since Washington and Allegany counties have met their quotas, its citizens will not be subject to the draft. Those districts from Frederick County that have not met their quotas include Buckeystown, Urbana, New Market, Petersville, Jefferson and Mechanicstown. Carroll County is considerably behind in fulfilling its quota. With the capture of Richmond and the defeat of Lee, it is unlikely that those drafted will see service in the field.
