Soldier's Letter

Summary

"Edgar," a soldier from Co. D, 6th MD, wrote a letter outlining the service performed by his regiment, which was recruited from the Hauvers and Mechanicstown districts of Frederick County. A part of the 6th Corps, the regiment fought in the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, and in a flank movement south of the James River. In the Shenandoah Valley the regiment rendered distinguished services in battles at Winchester, Fishers Hill, and Cedar Creek. Those killed since May 4, 1864 include Sgt. J.L.H. Damuth; privates A.C. Harbaugh, Edward F. Robinson, Irving R. Robinson, Wm H. Dorsey and Wm. McPherson. A list of wounded is also provided.
