Catherine Susannah Thomas Markell, diary

September 11, 1862

“Mrs. Douglas left. Officers, soldiers and girls here, as usual, until late at night. Visited General Hospital, Major (now Colonel) David Humphries of Tippah County, Mississippi, called today. Richard Rogan came in Tuesday, he said, and looked for me but having forgotten the name failed to find me. He (Major Humphries) tried to find him and Dr. Hunt and bring them back, but did not see them. I introduced Annie Fout to him and others.”
